What is the Mind?

According to ancient mystics the twelve astrological signs are symbols for the five parts of the mind. We will explore these twelve parts one by one.

But first, we need a basic understanding of the Mind of the Divine. Since we cannot observe the Divine Mind from the "outside," we need to examine It from the inside. Luckily, we just happen to exist within the Divine Mind.

The first thing a new-born child does during the first days of its life is to become conscious of itself. This leads us to believe, that in the beginning the Divine became aware of Itself. We call this awareness of ourselves Self Consciousness. Self consciousness occurs in our conscious mind. Our conscious mind is an expression of our ego.

The second thing a newborn child is to become aware of its surroundings and to remember things about itself and its surroundings. It stores these memories in its subconscious mind where it may retrieve them at will or forget them. It doesn't take a great intellect to assume the Divine also remembers and has a Divine Subconscious Mind. It's also quite logical that the Divine first became aware and later learned to remember. Remembering occurs in our subconscious mind. Our subconscious mind is an expression of our soul.

Over time we may become aware that our conscious mind is a part of our subconscious mind. And, it is. Over time we may not become aware that our conscious mind is a part of our subconscious mind. But, it is. Our very own conscious mind is one way our very own subconscious mind expresses itself. Our ego is an expression of our soul.

There comes a time in everyone's life when she or he becomes aware they have a spirit and that spirit expresses their own super-conscious mind. Our subconscious mind is one way our super-conscious mind chooses to express itself. Our soul is one way our spirit chooses to express itself. Our super-conscious mind is a part of our spirit.

Our super-conscious mind is the storehouse of everything about us from the beginning of time up to this very moment. It is the first creation of the Divine, the Adam that became each and everything in the Universe. My spirit is the unique creation called me. Your spirit is the unique creation called you. Everything in the creation is a unique creation of the Divine. And each of these spirits has an unconscious mind that remembers everything about that human, animal, plant or rock/mineral.

Our spirit expressing itself as a soul expressing itself as an ego expressing itself as personae is a unique expression of the Divine Creation. Our super-conscious mind expresses itself as a subconscious mind expressing itself as a conscious mind expressing itself as unconscious mind. This unconscious mind is an expression of our personae.

Our spirit expresses itself as our super-conscious mind. Our soul expresses itself as our subconscious mind. Our conscious mind expresses itself as our conscious mind. Out personae express themselves as our unconscious mind.

There are other common names for each of these things:

Spirit = True Self - True Mind - Superconsciousness
Soul = Higher Self - Higher Mind - Subconsciousness
Ego = Lower Self - Self-consciousness and Unconscious Mind
Personae = False Selves

Mystics say the abode of our super-conscious mind and true self is the pineal gland in our brain. They say the abode of our subconscious mind and soul is in the empty cavity between the four chambers of our heart. They also say the abode of our ego and conscious mind is in the Solar Plexus between our heart and belly button. And they say the abode of our personae and unconscious mind is in our Lunar Plexus below our belly button.

Wherever they are, our personae are a part of our ego. Our ego is a part of our soul. Our soul is a part of our spirit. Our unconscious mind is a part of our conscious mind. Our conscious mind is a part of our subconscious mind; and our subconscious mind is a part of our super-conscious mind.

We are circles within circles and spheres within spheres. We are a spiral of descending consciousness from Divine Consciousness to spirit consciousness to soul consciousness to ego consciousness to personae unconsciousness and at each level we express our consciousness through twelve minds and twenty-one natures.
